A Night out in Chapinero

Bogota’s largest barrio, Chapinero, is one of the city’s more affluent neighborhoods and is home to a large number of restaurants, bars, and other leisure venues. From a throbbing nightlife in the Zona T area of the neighborhood to the newest and hippest hangouts popping up all over Chapinero, there are plenty of great places to check out for those seeking great food, drinks, dancing and music, and tons of fun.

Best Restaurants, Bars & Clubs in Zona T

  1. Theatron.

Easily able to accommodate up to 4,000 electronic music fans, Theatron is Bogota’s largest nightclub and is located in the heart of the city’s gay community. The club is open from 9pm until 3am every Thursday-Saturday, with the best nights to go being Friday and Saturday. It has seven rooms to dance, drink, and just chill out listening to the music.

  1. 6L6 Nightclub.

This one rocks live bands, playing jazz, rock, and other favorite music genres; it is open Thursday through Saturday, from 8pm-3am.

  1. El Bandido Bistro.

Opened in 2012, El Bandido Bistro is one of the newer and very trendy restaurants in Zona T, offering up traditional French fare like grilled octopus, tender steaks, and elegant crème brulee. The restaurant is open Monday-Sunday from noon until 1am.

  1. Dona Elvira.

Described as one of Bogota’s best restaurants, Dona Elvira has been open since 1934 and features some of the best Creole cuisine in the city. Diners can sample delicious dishes like Creole flank steak, chicken stew, lamb, and much more. Dona Elvira is only open for lunch (11am-4pm) Wednesday through Sunday.

Toywan is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Bogota and offers signature dishes including tomato scampi, tofu in ginger sauce, and Cantonese chicken. It’s open Monday-Friday from noon until 10pm; Saturday 12pm-11pm; and Sunday 12pm-9pm.

Best Places in Chapinero to Hang-out:

  1. BBC La Bodega.

An affordable version of the popular BBC pubs, BBC Bodega features a huge selection of beers, a relaxed and fun atmosphere, and great menu.

  1. Latora Cuatro Brazos.

This is one of the wildly popular hang-out spots for locals and tourists, featuring live music, a DJ booth, lots of room for dancing and even an outdoor area for boogying outside.

  1. Cha Cha Bar.

Nestled on the 41st floor of a nondescript skyscraper, the Cha Cha Bar is another great hang-out spot in Chapinero; this fun venue features enough space to accommodate up to 900 party-goers, live music, outdoor and patio seating, and great views of the city.

  1. El Recreo de Adan.

This lively spot is a gay-friendly place to hang-out with friends, drink some beer or even have a cup of high-quality coffee. It also features board games, activities, and of course lots of music.

Fine Dining in Chapinero:

This restaurant has a California-style atmosphere, as well as American cuisine. The beautiful bar and snail-shaped staircase are two of its main features.

One of the best-known and most popular Italian restaurants in Chapinero, Pozzeto features traditional Italian dishes like spaghetti carbonara, and live piano music on Thursday and Friday.

  1. Houston’s Rosales.

A Mexican-Texan fusion dining spot, Rosales has been around since 1997 and has Texan décor, Mexican cuisine, and live bands every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The Chapinero area of Bogota is one of the more affluent localities, comprised mainly of university students and is Bogota’s largest LGBT communities. This area is also one of the city’s important financial and economic zones, with some areas of the neighborhood home to banks, financial centers, major shopping and dining areas, and also several universities, including: The Catholic University of Colombia, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, and the Universidad Piloto de Colombia.
